What we do

Marriage certificate data validation & error correction

We provide data validation and error correction services for New Zealand marriage certificates, serving individuals and organisations who need accurate certificate data for immigration, legal, compliance and administrative purposes.

Our team has worked with more than 10,000 NZ-related applicants on marriage certificate data accuracy and processing worldwide.

Data Validation
We review every field on your certificate — names, dates, places and registration details — and send you an email confirming accuracy or listing every correction needed.
Error Correction
We correct certificate data errors — name spelling, date discrepancies, transcription mistakes — and email you a full correction report with exactly what to update at BDM.
Overseas Use
Supporting accurate certificate data for use in immigration, visas, foreign citizenship, marriage abroad, inheritance, estate matters and legal proceedings internationally.
Consent-based Review
Consent-based review of certificate details, data accuracy and processing workflows for compliance and onboarding purposes.

Marriage certificate data validation

We provide data validation and error correction services exclusively for New Zealand marriage certificates issued by the Births, Deaths and Marriages (BDM) registry. All official certificate applications must be submitted directly through authorised government channels.

Certificate vs. Printout

For legal, immigration or compliance use, always request an official certificate rather than a printout. Certificates carry the BDM official seal and are accepted for legal and administrative purposes internationally. Printouts are for research purposes only.

Official applications are made through the New Zealand Government's authorised channels.

How our support works

Our approach to document support

1
Understand the document need
We identify whether the user needs a certificate, printout, apostille, authentication or an official-source verification pathway. Different use cases — immigration, probate, compliance or legal proceedings — may require different document types and processes. We clarify which official channel applies.
2
Confirm the official source
We confirm the correct official channel — such as Births, Deaths and Marriages, the NZ Government certificate portal (certificates.services.govt.nz), the DIA Authentication Unit for apostilles, or another authorised source.
Official applications, certificates and formal confirmations must be completed through authorised New Zealand Government channels, approved providers or any DIA-approved pathway that may apply.
3
Review requirements
We clarify the information, eligibility rules, privacy restrictions and supporting documents required for the relevant document pathway. This includes information on RealMe requirements, apostille processing timelines, and applicable NZ privacy rules.
4
Prepare consent-based workflows
Where appropriate, we support individuals and organisations in preparing consent-based document review workflows. This is based on clear user authorisation, data minimisation principles and transparent communication of the purpose for which documents are being reviewed.
5
Escalate to official channels
Official applications, certificates, apostilles and formal confirmations must be completed through authorised New Zealand Government channels or approved providers. Our role is data validation and workflow support — the official steps always remain with the relevant government authority.
Where formal confirmation is required, users and organisations must use authorised government channels, approved providers or any DIA-approved pathway that may apply.

Our intended compliance model

Our data validation model is designed around clear consent, limited data use, official-source transparency and clear user communication. We do not replace official government checks. Where formal confirmation is required, we direct users and organisations toward authorised government channels, approved providers or any DIA-approved pathway that may apply.

Consent before review
No document or identity information is reviewed without clear authorisation from the person concerned. Consent is obtained before any review workflow begins.
Purpose-limited support
Information is used only for the specific document, legal, immigration or compliance purpose requested. We do not retain or repurpose data beyond the stated need.
No official impersonation
We clearly identify ourselves as an independent provider and do not present our service as a government service. Any authorised intermediary status would only be represented if formally granted by the DIA.
Approved-channel escalation
Where official confirmation, a certificate or an apostille is required, users are directed to government channels, approved providers or any DIA-approved pathway that may apply.
DIA Confirmation Service readiness

DIA Confirmation Service readiness

DocuServices NZ is preparing a consent-based document review and verification-support model for New Zealand marriage certificates. We are seeking information on the correct pathway to be assessed for any DIA-approved intermediary role, including technical, privacy, security and operational requirements.

DocuServices NZ is not currently an approved DIA intermediary and does not currently have access to the DIA Confirmation Service. This section describes capabilities and controls we are developing in preparation for a formal assessment process. All current operations remain within our scope as an independent information and support provider.

Consent capture
Clear user authorisation before any document or identity information is reviewed, with consent tied to a specific, stated purpose and recorded with a timestamp.
Auditability
Ability to maintain records of consent, stated purpose, timestamps and review activity where required for compliance, accountability and any future intermediary audit requirements.
Data handling controls
Limited access, purpose-limited data use, defined retention practices and secure handling of personal information in line with GDPR and the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.
Official-source escalation
Formal confirmations must be completed only through authorised New Zealand Government channels, approved providers or any DIA-approved pathway that may apply — never independently by DocuServices NZ.

Independent provider — clear boundaries

DocuServices NZ provides data validation and error correction. All official certificate applications, apostilles and identity confirmations must go through the relevant New Zealand Government authority.

What people ask us

Are you part of the New Zealand Government or DIA?
No. DocuServices NZ is operated by GOV PAPERS SL as an independent data validation provider. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by or authorised by the New Zealand Government, the Department of Internal Affairs, or Births, Deaths and Marriages. Official certificates must be requested through official government channels.
Can you issue or process official NZ certificates?
No. We do not issue, sell or process official New Zealand certificates. All certificate applications must be submitted directly through the official NZ Government portal at certificates.services.govt.nz or through other authorised BDM channels. Our role is data validation and error correction — the official application is always yours to make.
What does your service include?
We provide data validation and error correction for New Zealand marriage certificate data — reviewing names, dates, places and registration details for accuracy, identifying errors and processing corrections. We also support consent-based document review workflows for compliance purposes.
Do you support organisations with compliance or onboarding processes?
Yes. We support compliance and onboarding teams that rely on NZ marriage certificate data as part of their due diligence workflows. This includes data validation, error correction, consent requirements and consent-based review workflows. Any document review must be consent-based and conducted in line with New Zealand privacy rules.
Can you arrange an apostille for my NZ certificate?
Apostilles on New Zealand certificates are issued exclusively by the DIA Authentication Unit. We provide information on when an apostille is required and what the process involves — but the apostille application must be made directly with the DIA. The official application is yours to submit.
Where do I go to order an official NZ marriage certificate?
All official NZ certificate applications are made through the NZ Government portal at certificates.services.govt.nz. You can also apply by post (using BDM forms), by phone (0800 22 52 52 within NZ, or +64 4 463 9362 from overseas), or in person at BDM offices in Auckland, Manukau, Wellington and Christchurch.

What we cannot do

To maintain clear and transparent boundaries, our data validation service does not replace or substitute official New Zealand Government processes.

We do not issue New Zealand certificates.
We do not process official certificate applications on behalf of the DIA or BDM.
We do not provide government-issued confirmations without an authorised pathway.
We do not claim affiliation, endorsement or authorisation from the New Zealand Government.
We do not represent ourselves as an approved intermediary unless such status is formally granted.
We do not issue apostilles — these are issued exclusively by the DIA Authentication Unit.

Where an official certificate, apostille or formal confirmation is required, the user or organisation must use the relevant official channel, approved provider or authorised pathway.
